The Emergence of Genius

Every person is born with a unique kind of genius within them.
I believe it is my mission to discover that genius and help it grow.

In today’s blog, I’d like to share the MINTEN approach to bringing out the genius that lies within each person.

“How does an air conditioner actually work?”

Today, during a training session, one of my students suddenly started looking something up.

“How does an air conditioner actually work?”

He opened his computer and kept searching from one thing to the next.
Eventually, he came across this:

“It says they use liquid nitrogen for cooling and butane for heating.”

That isn’t actually correct, since ordinary household air conditioners do not use liquid nitrogen in that way.

But the important thing is not whether he immediately finds the correct answer.

What matters is whether that first question leads to another question.

One question leads to another

In his case, this is what he started wondering:

I understand that matter can exist as a solid, liquid, or gas, and that nitrogen has to get colder in order to become a liquid.

It also says that when a gas is compressed, its temperature rises. I can understand that if I think about a pressure cooker.

But when molecules get closer together, a gas becomes a liquid, and when they get even closer, it becomes a solid.

So if you compress butane, wouldn’t it become a liquid too?

And if that happens, wouldn’t the temperature go down?

The mistake adults often make: giving the answer

At this point, there is one common mistake adults often make.

They give the child the correct answer.

This is something knowledgeable adults are especially likely to do.

Why do I think this is a mistake?

Because when we simply give children the answer, they often forget it very quickly.

Once they receive the answer, they may lose interest.
They had finally developed a genuine question, and giving them the answer too soon can bring that curiosity to an end.

Leave the question alone and watch what happens

What I believe we should do instead is leave the question alone for a while and simply watch what happens.

When the brain encounters a question, it keeps searching for an answer until that question is resolved.

It begins noticing information that may be connected to the answer, and sometimes it gives us unexpected flashes of insight.

In that process, information we would normally pass by without noticing can suddenly become meaningful because it connects with the question already in our mind.

And because that information is connected to genuine curiosity, it is much more likely to remain in our memory.

In his case, I believe many of those clues may come from what he learns at school.

During science class, his brain will likely continue searching for the answer.

I believe this is one of the most effective ways to bring out a person’s genius.

The same is true for adults

The same is true for adults.

We become curious about something, investigate it for ourselves, and think it through. Repeating this process allows us to build knowledge while also strengthening our ability to think.

At All Geniuses Association, one of the most important elements of our brain training is learning to explore the subjects that genuinely interest us more deeply.

As we become adults, we tend to ask fewer questions. But continuing to question things is an important factor in keeping the brain active.

Continuing to ask “Why?” with the curiosity of a child helps bring our genius to the surface.

The brain keeps searching for answers.
And through that process, it begins to work in ways that can dramatically expand our thinking.
